Odds & Ends

1. 14 books to read before they hit the big screen. I love seeing movie adaptations of books, even though I rarely like the movie better than the book. Some of those on the list I have never heard of and have no interest in reading or seeing, but I'm intrigued by both a Gone Girl and a Book Thief movie, and I've been meaning to read The Fault in Our Stars...knowing it's going to be a movie makes me more inclined to do so.
2. That above? That's a pretzel croissant (aka a croitzel, or so I'm told) from the Companion Bakery outlet. Companion is undoubtedly the best bread in St. Louis and while I love popping into their cafes for a sandwich lunch, I'm a bit enamored with their outlet. It's only open Friday-Sunday for limited hours, but they sell everything for 35-40% below retail. The croitzel was an impulse buy while I was there to pick up some ciabatta and a loaf of their raisin walnut bread (OBSESSED), and will now be a must-buy every time I pop in. STL readers, get yourselves to the outlet pronto!

3. The nectarines and peaches around us have tasted like candy lately. While I'm not one to swap fruit for dessert, the stone fruits have seriously been sweet enough to satisfy a craving. Needless to say, I need to make these Grilled Pork Chops with Fresh Nectarine Salsa again. You should too!

4. This girl. I don't have the words to tell you how much I love her. Eight years my junior, she'll always be my baby sister, but in recent years and especially after she moved to St. Louis for college, I can wholeheartedly say she's one of my very best friends. She's spoiled as all get out, but she's also the funniest, most loyal BFF I could ask for...and gets me in a way few people do. Happy 19th birthday Natta Bean!
