1. Give Kids Your Undivided Attention - or No Attention At All. ..."our undivided attention may be the most valuable asset we offer our children. Or get out the gadgets and get to work - because the complete absence of attention might just be the second." YES to all of this.

3. I'll be back tomorrow with my review of Red Rooster, the highlight of our dining in NYC this past trip, but I'd be remiss not to mention our time on Fire Island. After throwing around a bunch of different day trip ideas, we decided to stick fairly nearby and headed from the Bronx, where we were staying, to Fire Island, a tiny island off the coast of Long Island, New York. It consists of tiny (car-less) towns connected by walkways and we had a blast exploring for a few hours and then stopping for lunch at Albatross in Ocean Beach. There are some iffy reviews on Yelp, but we had no complaints with our scallop salad, and the french fries were particularly good! Definitely finish your meal with ice cream at Scoops (cash only!), right across the path. Prices are pretty high everywhere, but in this type of locale that's to be expected!
