Odds & Ends

1. Although I am so fortunate to have so many close friends nearby here in St. Louis, some of my favorite friends are way too far away. And while there is email and texting and other forms of social media which allow us to keep up on each others lives, it doesn't replace the desire to just be in the same place at the same time. This blog post titled 'wish we were neighbors', brought to my attention from a far away friend, captures this desire perfectly. Remember when, as a kid, you'd tell your best friends, "when we grow up let's be next door neighbors on a horse ranch and....". Funny how those sentiments never really change!

2. I shop at a few different grocery stores each week, but one that is always on my list is Aldi. While it's a bit of an alternative grocery story, I think it often gets a bad rap unfairly...which is why I loved Ali's 3-part series on Aldi: Why I shop at Aldi, How to Shop at Aldi, and What to Buy at Aldi. I highly encourage you to read each of her posts as they outline exactly what Aldi has to offer. It's not a one-stop shop, but I think you'll be amazed by what they do offer (the best of which being their insanely low prices!).

3. Eggs are almost always on the menu at least once a week in our house, in one form or another. If they aren't a quick weeknight dinner then they absolutely show up for weekend breakfasts. Needless to say I was super pumped to receive some eggs-celent tools from OXO. I've only used the egg separator so far (life-saver!! makes it 100x easier to separate eggs--and hands free because it rests on your bowl!), but I'm equally excited about the omelet flipper (I honestly skip omelets frequently because I'm so terrible at flipping) as well as the egg beater. I'll report back once I give them a try...thanks OXO!

4. I had to share this recent comment from reader Katie on my healthified zucchini bread, "This was a HUGE hit!! I made this yesterday. We had "Easter" on Good Friday for a bunch of Marines that my husband works with. They all raved about it. I will definitely be making this again (i only got one piece b/c it was gobbled up so quick) for my hubby and me, and then of course for all the Marine gatherings we have. I used greek yogurt instead of the oil, and splenda instead of the sugar. Thanks so much for the recipe!!" I definitely plan to try her yogurt swap!
