Blue Cheese-Stuffed Bacon-Wrapped Dates

While sitting at the bar at Burger Up in Nashville on vacation last March, Maggie and I started to dream up party themes. We came up with several, but the one that stuck was bourbon and bacon. The conversation carried over into dinner, at which point our husbands joined the conversation. We decided we needed a third "b", and debated for quite some time over what deserved the title: baseball? brownies? blues?

Blues struck a chord, no pun intended, with all of us and "Bacon, Bourbon, and Blues" was born. We decided Mike's graduation with an MBA was a good reason to celebrate and I began bookmarking every bacon or bourbon recipe I happened across. However, as soon as we determined our party theme, this delightful little appetizer was added to the list. Ryan and I first had blue cheese-stuffed bacon-wrapped dates at a Christmas party last December and we hadn't stopped talking about them since.

These were one of the favorite uses of bacon at "Bacon, Bourbon, and Blues". I convinced Maggie to try one despite her distaste for both bleu cheese cheese and dates and wasn't at all surprised when she admitted to liking them. Watch this disappear at your next party!
